Brief history of the beginnings of CARE2X:

In the middle of the year 2000, Elpidio Latorilla started noticing the problems in the computer system of the hospital where he works.

At this time, he also discovered the PHP scripting language and was immediately convinced of its usability. He needed a "real project" to enable him to learn the language in the most effective way. He decided to start working on a solution to the immediate problems of the hospital's computer system. Since he doesn't belong to the edp department, he decided to work on the project in his free time building a small network of five computers in his hobby shack that simulates the hospital's network. The project was named Care 2002 at that time.

The current beta version of CARE2X is also a document of his learning efforts. The early modules show simplistic algorithms and programming techniques. The later ones have more efficient programming techniques as he progressively acquired mastery of the language.

The project also showed that it will never be absolutely finished. It will continually evolve dynamically adapting to the real situations and problems. Elpidio initially planned to develop modules for not more than three functional departments. The first beta release turned out having a lot more than 20 functional modules after two years of programming in spare time. Some module extensions are under development and serve as an advance design guide.

Elpidio initially wanted to create a commercial version. Some time later however, he was convinced that the project will have a better chance to succeed, survive and evolve if it adopts the open source development strategy.

Currently, the CARE2X project needs not only software programmers but also graphic designers, layouters, medical personell, editors, language translators, debuggers, visionaries, ads experts, and critics.
